Shroud of the Wild

Knit Balaclava, yarn remnants, wire, felted roving
9 x 7 x 13
2025

This work is a post-humanist exploration of the relationship between humans and the environment from the (artist-imagined) perspective of the spirits of land and animal peoples. The more that I learn about the impact human choices have on our fellow creatures on this living planet, the more sensitive I become to their relationship with us. This balaclava, covered in wild embroidery, and constructed to be freestanding, invites consideration of the distance we have from our fellow creatures. The interior is not empty, but a placeholder for the magic and teachings of wildness that have been invisibilized by centuries of domination and degradation of this generous planet.
